PRIZES FOR SONGWRITING!
OXFAM VOLUNTEERS
After many years of service to Oxfam, their director is retiring at 86 years of age. A good innings if I might say so. Consequently the organisers are looking for a bunch of volunteers to fill in. They are looking for a team of people that can contribute small amounts of time each. The following roles are open: Administration, Stage managing, MC – Master of Ceremonies, back stage crew, web developer and front of house staff. Considering the wealth of expertise in our CSPS community, I know there are dozens of people with skills in these areas. Only one night/task per person is required – but you would be welcome to give more time if you are free. Please contact Heather McLaughlin at Pinewood Primary School if you are willing to donate some time to this worthy cause. E: heathermmc@gmail.com
Applications now open. A fantastic opportunity for all orchestral instrument students. Getting together with lots of different people from all over the state will improve your learning and joy of music. MUSIC APPLICATIONS FOR IPADS ETC
This year, the music room will focus on Music in the technological age – ICT. So an iPod doc has been purchased, and I would encourage people to get the iTunes App “Music Sparkles”. This is what it looks like at the online store – and only $2.99. As you hit the bars of the colorful xylophone it actually makes the sound
You could play all your favorite tunes from our regular xylophone classes – so much fun. If you want to ge the CD for home go to http://www.marimbamusic.com.au/ and have it sent to your place
The MSO also have an application to download. And it is FREE!! http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/mso-learn/id441422027?mt=8 Check it out!!!
Pro Keys: Pro Keys is a multi-instrumental polyphonic keyboard and drum pad. Tracks can be played and recorded, a vocal track can be recorded at the same time – perfect for budding singer/songwriters. A mirrored keyboard mode means two musicians sitting on opposite sides of the iPad can make music together.
Jam Pad: Jam Pad is a digital music maker at your fingertips. Play up to four instruments at once: piano, rhythm guitar, electric guitar, and drums! A great way to start your studentsʼ journey into music making.
Groove Maker: Need a DJ for a school function? Look no further; Groove Maker is the perfect app for creating non-stop electronic, dance and hip-hop tracks in realtime. Look and sound like a professional DJ by combining the 120 or so loops into a wall of sound.
Six Strings: Play electric and acoustic guitar, ukulele, steel drum on the iPad. Define the chords you want to play and then strum away, or pick out individual notes on the fret board. Get together with a couple of other musicians using both the Six Strings and Pro Keys apps and you have a complete band!
All ensembles will continue as usual – and then we will work on the children’s symphony orchestra, State Schools Spectacular, EMRY, Oxfam, Billy Hyde’s Festival – and the list goes on and on and on ….. phew…. lucky I got a good rest in the holidays.
Don’t forget to pick up some black shoes or runners to wear with your performance uniform!!
See you all soon – Happy Playing

All instrumental and classroom students will have a focus on learning to read traditional notation. All instrumental students need to work on a sheet of music theory for homework each week and have it checked by the teacher to improve in this area. It is essential that all students learn to read music, in order to reach their full potential.

Welcome to miss.lyonsmusicroom!!! I am so excited to be able to bring you aspects of music education from this site. I hope you have fun exploring what is available and learning more about music here.
Have a look at this fun musical video starring Yacko Warner – Animaniacs The Nations Of The World. Think about your own ‘Favourite Things’, then see if you can make a list. You might choose animals, or activities or food or even football teams. Line them up so that end lines rhyme to the familiar tune ‘The Mexican Hat Dance’. Then sing your own little piece. Lots of fun. Yacko has made many of these tunes to help children memorise lists of important things … just look them up on YouTube….. where I found this one.
